OPENING THE BOX – TMK447 MCLAREN HONDA MP4/4 SAN MARINO/MONACO GP 1988

Tameo Kits latest release (TMK 447) is a 1980’s race car called the MP4/4. You may have heard of it? This kit demonstrates the very latest in design and manufacturing techniques and allows the builder to select from the San Marino GP (Senna’s first win with McLaren) or Monaco GP (Prost winner) versions. Both versions feature the early season ‘snorkels’ for a different look to Tameo’s previous kits of this car (notably WCT88).

Opening the box, we find the typical spread of cast metal and photo etch parts, rubber tyres, a range of smaller detail parts for specific applications, two sheets of decals and full colour instructions.

A spread of the kit parts highlights the design of this model. This is a very high detail curbside model, with the cockpit and visible sections of the transmission accurately reproduced. The model also includes alternate rear wing, brake duct and radiator vent parts for the two race versions.

Kit instructions clearly identify the build sequence, paint colours and parts to be used for the two versions.

The kit decal sheet includes all markings and allows the builder to select between paint or decals for the fluorescent red sections of the livery.

A close up of some of the iconic markings.

Sections of carbon fibre are also included in the kit decals.

Moving to the castings, the center-piece is a wonderfully fine casting of this legendary single-seater.

Visible transmission details are accurately reproduced.

Perhaps the most recognizable instrumental panel in F1?

Etched parts are included for many final details across the model.

Different rear wing parts are included to accurately model the high downforce Monaco settings and the lower downforce San Marino cars.

Sections of wire and turned metal antennas are included.

A close up of the body casting, illustrating the scale reproduction of sections like the cockpit surrounds.

The cockpit builds up from a combination of etched and cast parts and features high detail.

Cockpit details are highly visible on the completed model

We will leave it there. We are very proud to add a new kit of this iconic race car to our range and hope you enjoy building it. It represents everything we have learned during more than 40 years of making 1/43 model kits. Enjoy!
