Tameo Kits recently released a 1/43 model kit of the Benetton B186 as it appeared during the 1986 USA GP. This kit features several changes from the recent Mexican GP version. Let’s open the box and take a look….
Following Tameo’s typical approach, the kit includes cast metal and photo-etch parts, rubber tyres, various detail parts including metal rod and wire mesh, decals and full colour instructions.
The decal placement guide provides a great ‘visual’ of the completed model and the iconic and very colourful B186 livery.
A unique feature of the USA GP version of this monoposto is the painted side walls on the tyres. Decals are provided to replicate this feature.
The main kit decal sheet is all new for this version, featuring the livery specific to the USA GP.
A spread of the kit parts highlights the main body and undertray parts, accompanied by over 120 smaller detail parts for a highly detailed ‘curbside’ model.
The main body casting is flawless, and captures the purposeful shape of the B186 perfectly.
Compared with the Mexican GP kit, a significant difference here is the symmetrical sidepods, with the right side of the car vented with the same design as the left.
A close up of the excellent engine and transmission detail.
Photo etch parts are included for many of the thinner sections of the car, with the rear wing endplate details accurately reproduced.
Sections of wire, rod and separate drive shaft ‘boots’ are packaged separately.
Full colour instructions are provided to guide the builder through the painting and assembly of this marvelous vehicle.
We hope modelers appreciate the opportunity to add the unique and colourful B186 to their collection. Enjoy!
