The 1976 Ferrari 312 T not only competed as an official entry entered in races by the Maranello team, but was also fielded by a private team: Scuderia Everest. Founded by Giancarlo Minardi, the same man who built the Formula 1 cars that competed in the series between 1985 and 2005. In 1976, this team reached an agreement with Enzo Ferrari, who provided them with a single-seater from the previous year to compete in two Formula 1 races in England, which did not count towards the championship. The driver chosen to drive the 1976 Ferrari 312 T was Giancarlo Martini, uncle of the more famous driver Pierluigi Martini, who raced for years with Minardi. In the first race, held at Brands Hatch, Martini qualified in fifteenth place but did not take part in the race due to an accident during the formation lap. On the second occasion, the BRDC International Trophy at Silverstone, Martini managed to start and finished the race in tenth place. Martini thus became the first Italian driver to drive a Ferrari F1 car, albeit not in World Championship races, since Arturo Merzario’s appearance in the 1973 United States Grand Prix. This was also the last appearance in an F1 race – albeit not counting towards the World Championship – of a Ferrari car run by a private team. An interesting detail regarding the car: for the Silverstone race, the airscope above the engine was painted black, whereas the official version entered by Ferrari in 1975 was completely white.
